52 Date Nights: Date #1

Saturday night was supposed to be our first date night but Randy had to work so we moved it to Friday.

I was responsible for the date this week and decided to keep it simple. There was temptation to go all out but I want to keep this stress-free, it will stop being fun pretty quick if we turn it into a "who can throw the best date night" competition.

The plan:

Fire in the fireplace (which we have never used), chocolate fondue, coffees from Starbucks and good conversation.

The Night:

Well, the fire in the fireplace didn't work out too well. We have had an instant fire log sitting in the fireplace forever but I guess it was damp because it just kind of smoldered for a while and then went out. Oh well, it was fun to poke at it and try and get it going with lots of newspapers.

The chocolate fondue was lovely but I opted for a pot of tea instead of Starbucks as buying strawberries for the fondue was a budget buster this time of year.

I borrowed my Mom's Table Topics cube and set up a comfy spot on the living room floor in front of our smoldering fire log. It was nice. We went through almost every question in the cube before we both started nodding off. It was the first time in a long time that we have spent a couple of kid-free hours together with no TV watching, internet surfing, gun cleaning or knitting taking place.

Highlight of the night:

I asked Randy what was the last thing he cried about.

His response: "Reading Horton Hears a Who... we are here we are here we are here."

And that is why I love him, he's a big softie.
